9/24/07: NEWSFLASH: Curtis K. Hughes has been appointed composer-in-residence with the Radius Ensemble for 2007-08, and will be composing a new work for Radius to be premiered in May. Meanwhile, the concert season is starting off with performances in Boston and NYC of "danger garden" featuring the extraordninary Firebird Ensemble. Finally, a new little treat has been added to the audio page of this website: "lesson plan," a short composition dedicated to composer Lee Hyla, as performed live by the amazing Amy Advocat on bass clarinet.

11/26/05: News Update: Curtis K. Hughes's Quartet for Saxophones (1999) has just been released on the Third Rail Saxophone Quartet's Debut CD, "Danger." Also, the recent collaborative concert "National Insecurity II" is the subject of an eloquent article in New Music Box by composer Julia Werntz.

10/18/05: NEWSFLASH: Curtis K. Hughes has been appointed the 2005-06 Composer in Residence with Collage New Music, whose season begins on 10/31. Also, on November 13, Curtis K. Hughes and David T. Little present "National Insecurity II," the second annual program of all political music by contemporary American composers at MIT. 6/28/05: NEWSFLASH: Curtis K. Hughes has recently received the 2005 ASCAP Foundation Leonard Bernstein Composer Fellowship at the Tanglewood Music Center and a 2005 St. Botolph Club Foundation Grant-in-Aid Award. This summer, check out concerts in June and July at Tanglewood (including premieres of "The Beck Journals, Vol. 1" - 6/30 and "Minority Whip" - 7/30) and at the Warebrook Contemporary Music Festival in Vermont. 3/25/05: This month, the site has updates to the concert calendar, the bio, the list of works, AND a new MP3 to listen to: "Un Cauchemar Fievreux" (1995) for strings, posted in celebration of the 10 year anniversary of its composition. 8/6/04: NEWSFLASH: The music of Curtis K. Hughes and other young Americans is featured this month as part of the 100th program of Art of the States, an internationally distributed radio program produced by WGBH. The program features a previously unreleased LIVE performance (2001) of AVOIDANCE TACTICS #1 by the incomparable Sarah Bob and Aaron Trant (a.k.a. Primary Duo). Streaming audio of the entire performance can be heard at the Art of the States website.

1/15/04: Happy New Year! Coming up, don't miss the premiere performance of "Insult to Injury," which is hot off the press. You can hear it on February 1 in Brookline, MA, or on February 7 at the Radius Ensemble concert in Cambridge, MA. where Curtis will be giving a pre-concert talk.
