New Music Ensembles & Organizations in need of support

Feeling generous? The following are all tax exempt Boston-area non-profits who support the cause of new music!
(Click on any link for information on how to donate.)

Collage New Music
Collage, for 30+ years one of the lynchpins of Boston's new music scene, is an extremely virtuosic chamber ensemble made up of seasoned professionals which plays exclusively modern and contemporary repertoire and has premiered many important new works. (Curtis K. Hughes is currently serving as the ensemble's composer-in-residence.)

Firebird Ensemble
Firebird is the youngest, hottest contemporary music chamber ensemble in town, and is devoted to the most diverse and exciting repertoire of living composers. Truly a new music "supergroup," Firebird's regular members and recurring guests are essentially a "who's who" of Boston's new music scene assembled in one place! (The website doesn't make this clear, but Firebird IS a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, and tax-deductible donations can be made by contacting the group.)

The New Gallery Concert Series
The New Gallery Concert Series at the Community Music Center in Boston's South End, curated by extraordinary pianist Sarah Bob, is a unique phenomenon: Contemporary visual artists are brought together with composers, and the recital hall becomes a gallery, as audiences have a chance to take in art that either inspired or was inspired by the music they are hearing. Each concert in the series is an intimate, one of a kind event, and there is always a chance to meet the composers and artists. Its easy to donate online. A great way to support multi-discplinary creativity!

The Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP)
BMOP is one of very few orchestras in the country that plays only modern and contemporary repertoire, and over the past 10 years BMOP has reinvigorated Boston's musical life from the inside out. By cultivating ongoing relationships with both local composers and international figures alike, BMOP has become the crucial core of New England's modern music scene. To support BMOP is to indirectly support nearly ALL endeavors in contemporary music in Boston.

Radius Ensemble
Radius is a multitalented chamber ensemble which has, in a very short period of time, built up a remarkable following for its regular concerts in the Boston area. Strictly speaking, they are not just a "new music" ensemble, yet by programming new works alongside of canonical works AND seldom heard treasures from the past, they successfully bring contemporary music to audiences who would otherwise never hear it. Their role in greater Boston's musical life is a crucial one, and it is easy to donate to Radius online.

Art of the States
Art of the States is an international radio music distribution service that makes music by contemporary American composers available to listeners in 50 countries, both through broadcasts and online. It plays an indispensable role in broadening the audience for new music, and donations can be made online. (Simply follow the "support Art of the States" link from the homepage.)

Callithumpian Consort
Based at the New England Conservatory of Music and directed by legendary pianist Stephen Drury, the Callithumpian Consort is the home of the avant-garde in Boston. In concerts at the conservatory, and in programs at smaller venues such as Cambridge's Lily Pad, these astonishingly virtuosic musicians can tackle the most challenging experimental music without breaking a sweat. (Note: Contributions can be made by contacting the group, but the group's tax status has yet to be ascertained - Please stay tuned for more info.)
